About Alex
My legal career has reached some of the highest peaks that I could have imagined. A first-generation Canadian and son of a refugee, I managed to earn law degrees in both Canada and the United States as the recipient of numerous scholarships, finishing at the top of my class and being honoured to serve as valedictorian of my Canadian class.
I began my career as a labour and employment lawyer at one of Canada’s oldest and most prestigious law firms, where I represented some of Canada’s largest employers in their various employment matters. I provided advice on employment standards, wrongful dismissals, unjust dismissals, constructive dismissals, human rights, privacy, workplace investigations, occupational health and safety, labour arbitrations, collective bargaining, and labour and employment issues arising in corporate transactions.
I took a brief stint away when I was approached by a top New York firm with an invitation to join their litigation group. I represented multinational organizations in a wide range of complex civil litigation and investigatory matters, including securities, environmental tort, bankruptcy, products liability class actions, and workplace investigations. The opportunity was incredible, but by 2021 I was ready to come home, and returned to my previous firm until leaving to start Treiber Law in 2024.
I have represented clients before numerous provincial, state, federal and appellate courts, including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Southern District of New York, the Southern District of Florida, the Bankruptcy District of Delaware, the Bankruptcy District Court of the Southern District of New York, the District Court of Travis County (Texas), the Texas Court of Appeal, the Texas Supreme Court, Illinois Circuit Court, and the Illinois Court of Appeal.
I am called to the bar in Ontario, New York State and the Southern District of New York, and am a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the New York Bar Association and the New York City Bar Association. I am a member of the Ontario Bar Association’s Labour and Employment Section Executive and am frequently asked to speak before the Ontario Bar Association’s Labour and Employment Section on hot topics in labour and employment law.
One of the greatest privileges of my career has been a sessional instructor at the University of Windsor Faculty of Law teaching the next generation of labour and employment lawyers. I currently reside in the Leslieville/Riverside area with my husband, Jeff, and our Australian Shepherd, Brooklyn.
About Ivy
Ivy Duong joined Treiber Law after cutting her teeth at one of the most pre-eminent labour and employment boutiques in Toronto. She has experience working with some of the country’s largest employers, helping to craft advice on workplace issues from hiring to employee management to complicated terminations. She has also worked with employees, providing guidance on their rights and obligations, and helping them through difficult challenges.
Ivy takes pride in maintaining a client-centric focus in her work. She entered law with the goal of doing impactful, meaningful work that had a direct influence on the lives of others. She has been able to do this at Treiber Law, whether she is advising an employee on negotiating their severance package, or helping guide an employer through a complicated workplace accommodation and minimize their risk. She takes the time to understand her clients’ goals, and takes a strategic approach to help them meet those goals efficiently and effectively.
When she’s not hard at work, Ivy loves to travel, explore new restaurants, listen to music, or hang out with her dog, Archie…but you can probably find her on the back 9 working on her golf game.
About Hillary
Hillary Isaacs is on the front lines at Treiber Law, currently serving as our legal assistant as she prepares to sit her final exams to become a licensed paralegal. She helps our lawyers interview clients and witnesses, analyze records, prepare court filings, draft key documents, and prepare for motions and trials. Hillary has brought incredible energy and warmth to our team, and we are excited to watch her grow into her new role.
Hillary has been interested in legal and human rights issues since her earliest days of undergrad and continuing into her diploma program. She has a passion for human rights, and has been instrumental in helping us build relationships with both our employer and our employee clients. She has been an integral part of building our firm, and our clients know that having her work on their matter means they’re in the very best of hands.
